An intention is the direction you aim to move towards in your life. When you have a clear intention, you are drawn in the direction you want to go, like an arrow expertly soaring to its target. When your intentions are unclear, scattered, or unsure, that arrow will miss its mark and drop to the ground.
How many times have you wanted your life to go a certain way, and when it didn't, you suffered? If you are anything like me, many. Now, I'm not here to talk about the law of attraction or manifesting the life you want. I'm all about you finding peace and joy all along the way, regardless of the paths you are on.
Let me be clear here. I'm not saying it is impossible to manifest what you want in the world. Plenty of people do. I know I certainly have. The trap with manifesting is that, eventually, something is bound not to go your way. An illness shows up, a loved one leaves your life, the stock market crashes or someone you care about says something you feel hurt by. I think you get the idea. Are you steady enough to traverse that path with grace instead of turmoil when those things happen?
When you set the right intentions with the right attitude, then peace, fulfillment, and joy happen naturally.
I'm here to empower you, not make you a prisoner to what you think will make you happy. I'm here to help you find lasting happiness. Intention can move you in that direction.
Why use Intention?
There are many reasons why you might want to use an intention. Here are a few:
To focus your energy and attention. When you have an intention, you are more likely to be attentive to your choices and actions. This will help you direct your energy towards your target. Intention can be helpful in all areas of your life, from work to relationships to personal development.
To stay motivated. Having an intention can help you to stay motivated, even when things get tough. When you know what you are working towards, it is easier to keep going, even when you face setbacks.
To make clear decisions. When you have an intention, you can make decisions aligned with your values. This can help you to avoid making choices that you may later regret.
To live a more fulfilling life. When you are living with Intention, you are more likely to be doing things that are meaningful to you and that make you happy. This can lead to a more fulfilling and satisfying life.
How to set an intention
There are two different ways to approach setting an intention.
1. The first is setting an intention for what you want to release from your life.
2. The second is setting an intention for what you want to bring into your life.
Setting an Intention to Release
We all have unhealthy habits and uncompassionate behaviors that do not serve our greater good. Many of those qualities are stored deep in our subconscious, the part of the mind you are unaware of. Setting an intention to release something is like your conscious mind telling your subconscious mind that you are ready to dig in deep to uncover and release those stored patterns.
Psychology pioneer Sigmund Freud said the unconscious mind is the primary source of a human's behavior. Often, the analogy of an iceberg will be used to demonstrate this. Only a tiny part of the iceberg, the conscious mind, appears on the surface. The larger part of the iceberg is underwater, where you cannot see it. That is the subconscious or unconscious mind. Yet the part under the water is the foundation for the iceberg, and because of its shape, size, and density, it drives the direction of the iceberg's journey, just like your subconscious mind.
Here's an example from my life. I spent the first part of my life saying "I'm sorry" to almost everything. It was like my subconscious Intention was to feel bad for taking up space and breathing on planet Earth because I didn't deserve to be here. I didn't know that was my subconscious Intention. At the time, I was just sympathetic to others and the world.
Using therapeutic tools like The Triple A's revealed this subconscious guilt for existing. In this case, my conscious Intention became to release the belief that I do not deserve to exist. By repeating that Intention, I was now telling my conscious and subconscious mind that I no longer wanted to carry the burden of that belief system and its effects on my life.
What were some of those effects, you may ask? I had an energy of not being worthy, resulting in me suffering from depression and not having the ability to live a joyful life even when things were going my way, and especially when they were not. By setting an intention to release that belief, I was simultaneously setting an intention to release its effects on me.
Setting an Intention to Receive
This one can get a bit tricky because if you are asking to receive a Lamborghini, you may be reaching outside of reality. If what you want may not be possible, here is what to ask yourself. "How do I want to feel when I receive what I want?" Perhaps you want to feel the exhilaration and sense of being fully alive from soaring down the road in your Lamborghini. In that case, an intention that may serve you is "My intention is to feel more alive in my daily life." Then, life can bring you experiences that help you to feel alive, which may or may not include the Lamborghini. The great thing is that you are not limited by a very expensive car bringing you the happiness you seek. You can have it all along the way!
How does that work? How can I be happy all along the way?
When you use an intention, you are not just reinforcing what you want to your conscious and subconscious mind. You are also reprogramming your brain with new neural connections and pathways that reinforce the result of your Intention. That is happiness, peace, joy, and fulfillment. I won't get into the science behind these pathways. However, to simplify, your brain believes whatever you tell it consciously or subconsciously. If you tell it you want to feel more alive, it will create that path for you. This clears the way for you to walk that path in your life.
You are powerful!
We humans can underestimate the power we hold because, often, we feel like victims of our internal and external circumstances. Yet your subconscious mind is like an army officer. When its ranking officer, the conscious mind, says, "You are not good enough," the subconscious mind says, "Yes, ma'am!" and makes it so in your life. You hold the power here.
Now, remember, I'm not trying to help you set up every part of your life and the world so that you will always get what you want when you want it. That is a disservice not only to you but to everyone else. What if you want it to rain tomorrow to water your plants, but your neighbor wants a sunny day because they are going to the park?
I am talking about feeling a sense of happiness that comes from an internal sense of peace and joy, not dependent on external factors. You can't make it rain or be sunny, but you can be happy either way.
Your intention is there to help you uncover and live the happiness you have dormant within yourself.
Your North Star
An intention is like the North Star or Southern Cross. It is a guiding light in your life, pointing in the direction you need to go while clearing the subconscious of what no longer serves you.
Sometimes, there is a lack of clarity over what Intention will serve you best. That is why I created an Intention Creating Worksheet. To help you determine what is hiding in your subconscious mind that needs to surface. Download it for free, fill it out, and presto, you have a clear intention to start guiding your life.
How to use an intention
Once you have created your Intention, you must know how and when to use it. Here are some tips for you.
Set an intention for your day. What do you want to achieve or experience today? For example, you might set an intention to be present and mindful, to be kind and compassionate, to release fear, or to be productive and efficient.
Set an intention for your work. What do you want to contribute to your team or organization? What impact do you want to have on your clients or customers? For example, you might intend to create high-quality work, provide excellent customer service, release lazy tendencies, or be a supportive team player.
Set an intention for your relationships. How do you want to show up in your relationships with your partner, family, and friends? What energy do you want to bring to your interactions with others? For example, you might set an intention to be a good listener, supportive and encouraging, to process your anger in a healthy way, or to be honest and open.
Set an intention for your personal growth. What do you want to learn or develop in yourself this year? What kind of person do you want to become? For example, you might set an intention to be more patient, more compassionate, to release judgmental thoughts, or to be more grateful.
With Therapeutic Techniques: Numerous therapeutic processes for the mind, emotions, and body are enhanced through the use of Intention. Repeat an intention that aligns with your purpose for the therapeutic approach to help direct the session.
Let's talk about that last bullet a bit more because it is the most efficient way I have discovered that allows your Intention to resolve into positive action. Therapeutic processes were designed to help you uncover subconscious stored memories and behaviors that no longer serve you. Once found, they can be freed from their negative patterns and reintegrated. What remains is pure energetic potential that you can then use in your life in a way that supports you.
When you are clear on what patterns are no longer serving you, you can set an intention to release them. Or, when you are clear on what direction you want to go, you can set an intention to traverse a path that will clear the way for you.
The therapeutic process helps fast-track your intentions power because it clears away subconscious obstacles you did not even know existed. There are more therapeutic processes out there than I know about, and I have studied many of them. Here is my top list, including the services I offer.
The Triple A's for Emotional, Mental, and Physical Integration
